Matthew Patience
Professor Patience (Ph.D., Hispanic linguistics, University of Toronto) is an assistant professor of Spanish and linguistics and the director of the Spanish Basic Program. He specializes in second language acquisition and phonetics. His current research focuses on three areas: the effectiveness of different methods of pronunciation instruction; crosslinguistic influence of phonetics and phonology in multilingual speakers; and the role of individual differences in L2 speech production.
Olga Romero Mestas
Professor Romero Mestas (Ph.D. in Spanish, Florida State University; M.A. in Latin-American studies, Universidad de Camaguey; B.A. in journalism, Universidad de La Habana) is a visiting teaching faculty of Spanish. Her research interests include topics from Colonial studies and theory of resistance, such as the expression of political resistance in literary work, and alternative resistance through fraternal societies, particularly in colonial and post-colonial spaces. Professor Romero Mestas is also a fiction writer.
Tyler King
Tyler King (M.A. Florida State University; B.A. West Texas A&M University) is a visiting teaching faculty of Spanish. Mr. King has taught elementary and intermediate Spanish at Florida State University as well as Tallahassee State College. They teach and coordinate Elementary Spanish I.
